DESCRIPTION

Cistus, known in Greece as ladanies or xistarias, is a shrubby wild plant that covers the hillsides of the Mediterranean. Ours is grown and dried in the Parnonas mountains of the Peloponnese and packed as loose leaf. It brews into a smooth, gently earthy tea with a soft herbal aroma. It's naturally caffeine-free, so it suits any time of day.

How to use

Use one to two teaspoons per cup. Pour over just-boiled water and let it steep for 5 to 8 minutes, then strain. A longer steep gives a fuller, slightly more robust flavour. It's good on its own, with a little honey or lemon, or blended with mountain tea or mint.

Greece is not one place. Our oregano and mountain tea come from the Parnonas mountains, our olive oil, honey and tomatoes from Crete, our legumes from Grevena, our mastiha from Chios and our sea salt from the Mani coast. Our founders are based in Athens and buy directly from the farms and cooperatives they visit, so nothing is blended with other origins or bought through a distributor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is cistus tea?

Cistus, known in Greece as ladanies or xistarias, is a shrubby wild plant that grows across Mediterranean hillsides. This pack contains 100% dried cistus, packed as loose leaf tea for brewing at home.

What does cistus tea taste like?

It brews into a smooth, gently earthy tea with a soft herbal aroma. The longer you steep it, the fuller and slightly more robust the flavour becomes.

How do I brew Greek cistus tea?

Use one to two teaspoons per cup and pour over just-boiled water. Let it steep for 5 to 8 minutes, then strain. Go towards 8 minutes if you like a fuller cup.

Can I mix cistus tea with other herbs or drink it cold?

Yes. It works well blended with Greek mountain tea or mint, and you can add a little honey or lemon. For an iced tea, brew it as usual, let it cool and serve it chilled over ice.

Where is the cistus grown, and is it organic?

It is grown and dried in the Parnonas mountains of the Peloponnese, Greece. The tea is certified organic in the UK and EU.

How many cups of tea does a 100g pack make?

As a rough guide, at about 2 g per cup a 100 g pouch makes around 50 cups. If you use a smaller teaspoon per cup, it will go further.

How should I store cistus tea?

Keep the pouch sealed and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to keep the aroma fresh. The best before date is printed on the pack.

Does cistus tea contain caffeine, and can I drink it during pregnancy?

Cistus tea is naturally caffeine-free, so you can enjoy it at any time of day. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before drinking herbal teas.

Not to my taste...

I have given this product a 4-star because, whilst it is not to my particular taste, there is nothing actually wrong with it, I just was not keen on the flavour but my daughter liked it and found it refreshing. I am pleased the tea will not go to waste as my daughter will drink it but I would not order it again.

Subtle herb tea!

I've enjoyed the APSOGO Premium Greek Cistus Tea, a delightful herbal tea! Its subtle taste is not overpowering, leaving a refreshing feeling rather than dryness. This drink makes it perfect for any time of the day, especially when I need a moment of wellness amidst a busy schedule. I highly recommend it for its exquisite taste and certified organic quality!

APSOGO Premium Greek Cistus Tea

This APSOGO Premium Greek Cistus Tea is nice, tastes nice in my opinion, smells nice in my opinion and has a nice colour to it...in my opinion! It is loose leaf tea so obviously you will need the requisite equipment to use it correctly, you can't just throw it in a mug like a tea bag! I am used to drinking Herbal Teas and as such I like this one. It may not be for everyone and I would advise some experience in Herbal Teas so you have some idea what you're getting before trying this out as your first Herbal Tea. Some Herbal Teas can counter-intuitively leave you with dryness after ingesting, but I am pleased to say I did not find that to be the case with this APSOGO Premium Greek Cistus Tea. Overall I like it I found it to have a pleasant taste and the packet size is quite good so I should be able to enjoy many cups of tea over quite a long time before needing to order more, which I will gladly do.

Lovely Floral Tea

I've not drunk cistus tea before, but it's very pleasant. This comes as a bag of loose leaf tea, so I made it in a strainer. After steeping for 8 minutes, the leaves & flowers sank to the bottom, and I was left with quite a mild florally herbal tea - it's almost like half way between camomile & green tea. You can get cheaper cistus tea, but £9.99 seems about right for organic. 5 stars - I love it 4 stars - I like it 3 stars - It's ok 2 stars - I don't like it 1 star - I hate it

Organic herb tea from Greece

I've not come across this particular tea before so was a bit of a novice. I like herb teas particularly hibiscus and some of the fruit and herb teas. This is from Greece, as it says on the packet, and is organic. On first making a cup this has a herby smell, it reminded me of hay or newly mown grass. On tasting it has a slight peppery lemon tone that I really liked. Some herb teas can be quite bland. This one has body to it. There is nothing untoward In the packet, it looks like all quality leaves finely shredded and no stalks or other detritus like some other organic ones tend to contain. There was a slight oily scum in the cup and around the edge but it was not off putting. I would probably make it in a pot in future and use a sieve rather than make it directly in the cup with an infuser. If you like green tea, or any sort of herb tea, then I would say give it a try. It is expensive at £10 for 100g, but looking at it as 1 penny per gram it doesn't sound as bad. Definitely one I could get used to and drink regularly.

Great Greek cistus tea

Got this to use as a nice natural drink to have before going to bed. I’ve not tried cistus tea before so decided to treat myself and give it a go. This is a 100g bag of organic cistus which is easy to make. I simply put a spoon in my 1 person cafetière and let it brew. It produces a yellowy coloured tea which has a very subtle but pleasant flowery taste to it. It’s certainly not a strong flavour but it does leave me feeling nice and relaxed after having a glass of this before bed. I can also relax knowing that it’s totally natural and organic. Overall, I’m happy with this cistus tea. It’s premium tea, but you’re paying for the quality and natural, organic ingredients. It’s not a strong taste but it is pleasant and relaxing.

Leckerer Tee in praktischer Verpackung

Relativ feiner loser Tee

Cystus-Tee in bester Bio-Qualität

Sehr zufrieden

Schnelle Lieferung, gute Verpackung, sehr gute Qualität.
