DESCRIPTION

These are whole, Class A organic figs of the Smyrna variety, grown around the village of Kamaria in North Evia, where figs have been sun-dried for more than 80 years. They dry slowly in the sun, are sorted by hand and then sealed in a vacuum bag, so they stay soft, moist and full of their honeyed flavour. Nothing is added: no sulphur, no preservatives and no sugar.

How to use

Enjoy them as they are with a coffee or a cup of mountain tea, or put them on a cheese board with feta, blue cheese or a mature hard cheese. Slice them over Greek yoghurt or porridge with a spoonful of honey and some walnuts, chop them into salads and grain bowls, or bake them into cakes, breads and tarts. They also work well simmered in a sauce for pork or game. Once opened, keep the figs in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Every product from the region that does it best

Greece is not one place. Our oregano and mountain tea come from the Parnonas mountains, our olive oil, honey and tomatoes from Crete, our legumes from Grevena, our mastiha from Chios and our sea salt from the Mani coast. Our founders are based in Athens and buy directly from the farms and cooperatives they visit, so nothing is blended with other origins or bought through a distributor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do these figs come from?

They are grown around the village of Kamaria in North Evia, Greece, an area where figs have been sun-dried for more than 80 years. They are the Smyrna variety, known for its thin skin, soft texture and honey-like sweetness.

Are they organic and unsulphured?

Yes. The figs are certified organic in the UK and the EU, and they are not treated with sulphur dioxide or any preservative. The only ingredient is organic dried figs.

Do they contain added sugar?

No. Nothing is added to the figs. All the sweetness comes from the fruit itself, so they contain naturally occurring sugars only.

Why are they vacuum-packed?

Vacuum packing protects the figs from air, so they keep their moisture, soft texture and flavour for longer, without the need for preservatives.

What does Class A mean?

Class A is the top quality grade. The figs are large, whole and evenly dried, and they are sorted by hand before packing.

How can I use them?

Eat them as they are, add them to a cheese board, slice them over yoghurt or porridge with honey and walnuts, chop them into salads, or bake them into cakes and breads.

Which sizes are available?

There is a 250g vacuum pack presented in a kraft box, and a 1kg vacuum pack for those who use a lot of figs or want to share.

How should I store them and how long do they keep?

Keep them in a cool, dry place. Once opened, store them in an airtight container. The best before date is printed on the pack.
